The Abilene Reporter News hosted the Abilene Chamber of Commerce Wake Up Wednesday, January 24, 2007,  to introduce their new monthly publication "Las Familias de Abilene". Dr. Elsa Murano (left) of College Station, vice chancellor and dean for agriculture and life sciences at Texas A&M University was keynote speaker at the Farm and Ranch Expo Show, February 21, 2007.  The Farm and Ranch Expo was sponsored by the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. Gloria Padilla (right) member of the Abilene Chamber Hispanic Business Committee is pictured with Dr. Murano.

Texas State Technical College West Texas at the Sweetwater campus, held their annual Planning for College seminar, March 3, 2007. Daniel Garcia with Abilene Christian University explained campus life to high school students 

Northern Little League was finally able to hold their Opening Day ceremonies, April 14, 2007,  after a week delay due to cold weather. The Richard Garcia field received a state of the art playing field and a new concession stand.

 The Communities in Schools of the Big Country, Ortiz    Elementary campus, sponsored Western Days, May 3,    2007. The campus classes toured exhibit booths, games, horse rides and food booths during the day of recognition. .

 Tejano artist Rebecca Valadez and Joe B and the Barron Band headlined the 25th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at St. Vincent Catholic Church, May 4-6, 2007. 
 

The annual High School Seniors Recognition Banquet was held at the Abilene Civic Center, May 12, 2007.  High School seniors from Abilene and the Big County were recognized for their academic achievements.

The Grace Museum presented the painting "La Jamaica" by Fidencio Duran to the community, May 17, 2007.  "La Jamaica" is on permanent display at the downtown museum.

The Hispanic Leadership Council held their 3rd annual "Viva La Educacion" soccer tournament at the Lee Sports complex, June 23, 2007. Pictured are the 1st place tournament winners from Hardin Simmons University.

The 3rd annual "El Barrio del Sancudo" reunion was held at the Reyes Flores Park, July 14, 2007. Hundreds gathered to reminisce the old days of the first barrio in Abilene.

 

 .The Abilene Cultural Affairs Council Young Audiences series presented the Ballet Folklorico dancers from Dallas/Fort Worth, July 25, 2007 at the Abilene Public Library.

Abilene Christian University "Hispanos Unidos" student club hosted their annual Entra A La Plaza celebration in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month at the ACU campus, September 21, 2007. A Mariachi band from Lubbock and Ballet Folklorico dancers from Acuña, Mexico entertained their guest.

The annual "Festival of the Americas" was held at the Nelson Park Festival Gardens, October 13, 2007.  Miss Perla Rodriguez (left) was crown "Reina de las Fiestas of the Americas" for 2007.

Dyess Hispanic Heritage committee held their annual banquet at the Ben E. Keith hospitality room, October 20, 2007 in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. Dyess personnel and their guest enjoyed  cultural food and dancing.  .  

 KJTZ Tejano 106.9 hosted their first annual "Christmas En El Barrio", December 16, 2007 at Sears Park Recreation Center. Hundreds of children received toys and an opportunity to sit with Santa Claus during the event.
